IAGG

The International Association of Gerontological Societies (IAGG) was founded in Liege, Belgium, in July 1950, and later it became the International Association of Gerontology - IAG. From 1951 to 1981, IAG held a World Congress of Gerontology every 3 years.

Since 1985, there has been a 4-year interval between congresses, matching the mandate of the Executive Committee. In recognition of IAG historical background, its logo is subtitled "Founded 1950", and its flag represents the international community and the presence of gerontologist members of IAGG all over the world, supporting the promotion and development of Gerontology as a science.

In 2005, the Council members approved the adding to "Geriatrics" to the name, and we are now the International Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics - IAGG. The idea is to promote and develop Geriatrics as the medical specialty that focuses the elderly.

The World Congress of Gerontology is a major vehicle through which IAGG achieves its objectives. Every four years, internationally recognized experts in Gerontology and Geriatrics share their knowledge and experience through plenary presentations, symposia, oral presentations and poster sessions.
