Located on the Place de la Porte Maillot, the Palais des Congrès de Paris is connected to the entire highway system via the ring road. Whatever the arrival point, train station or airport, the various transport methods provide optimal access to visitors.

Climate
Paris lies in the midst of the Ile de France region, which has France's lowest rainfall; however the city is known for its unexpected rain showers, which can occur at any time of year. Summer temperatures are mild to warm, with occasional heat waves, while winters are very chilly with temperatures hovering around freezing point. The average low temperature in July is 15° Celsius and the average high temperature is 24° Celsius.

Invitation letter for visa application
International participants may need a letter of invitation from the congress Organizers in order to obtain a visa for entry into France. The Organizers will not be able to contact or intervene with any French Embassy or Consulate office abroad on your behalf. Please start the visa application process as early as possible and at least six weeks prior to your departure. All participants must have registered and have paid the required registration fees before requesting an official letter of invitation. To request an official letter of invitation for your visa application, be sure to provide us with your detailed information including your passport number, complete mailing address, telephone and fax number and your e-mail address. All requests should be sent by e-mail to info@gerontologyparis2009.com. Please mention the subject of the e-mail: "Request for an official letter of invitation for visa application".
Please note that in the absence of the afore-mentioned information or if you are not registered to the congress we will not be able to process your request.
The registration fees are refundable if the visa application is denied. All refund requests will have to be received before the congress, by e-mail, fax or letter. No refunds will be made for cancellations received during or after the congress

Passport and visa information
An identity card is sufficient for participants from EU-member countries. For more information visit the website www.eurovisa.info. All other participants need a valid passport to enter the European Union. Visas may be required for participants from some countries. For specific information, please contact the nearest French Embassy at least six weeks prior to your departure.

Safety tips
As in all major cities, people should take care of their personal belongings. It is not advised to wear your badge outside IAGG World Congress activities and special events.
Shopping
In Paris, the larger stores are open from mid-morning to about 20.00 hours without closing for lunch. Department stores may stay open as late as 22.00 hours but only on Wednesday or Thursday.
Smaller shops/stores and supermarkets open as early as 08.00 hours but close between 13.00 – 15.00 hours and open again until 20.00 hours. There is limited Sunday shopping, usually in the Latin Quarter, Marais, Bastille or Ile de la Cité sections.
Smoking
The 19th IAGG World Congress of Gerontology and Geriatrics is a non-smoking congress.
